“I can only wear gold jewelry, everything else breaks me.” How often have I heard that exact phrase from my mother when I was a kid? Every time you give jewelry that was his response. Why all the gold to break my mother? That statement is true? When I started designing jewelry over a year I decided to find out. I wanted to design jewelry from my mother that she could use without fear of an outbreak. Now I let you in on what I discovered.
My mother, like many people, develops contact dermatitis when your skin comes in contact with certain types of jewelry. The dermatitis is due to an allergic reaction to nickel in many types of jewelry. Nickel allergies are very common. One in seven people is likely to suffer from an allergy to nickel. More women suffer from nickel allergies than men. However, this can be attributed to the fact that women tend to wear more jewelry than men and therefore more likely to be exposed to skin contact with nickel. Now I knew what had caused ruptured my mother had to know what kinds of non-metal jewelry containing nickel. First I looked for gold jewelry. Generally, yellow gold (more than 14 carats) does not cause an allergic reaction. However white gold. White gold alloys contain nickel and other “white” colors are silver metal. One in nine people who react to nickel in white gold.
Another gold jewelry is gold filled or “GF” jewelry. Gold filled jewelry metal is created when a base metal is coated with a layer of gold. Gold filled differs from the amount of applied gold gilt. The layer used in gold-filled jewelry is typically 50 to 100 times thicker the layer, which is used to coat gold products. Then I looked at silver jewelry. For those who are sensitive to nickel, silver, fine and sterling silver are great choices for “white” metals. Sterling silver is, by definition, 99.9% pure silver. Jewelry is usually not made of fine silver because the metal is very soft and not resistant to normal wear well. typical silver jewelry is sterling silver. Sterling silver is, by definition, 92.5% pure silver. In general, the remaining 7.5% consists of copper metal. Copper is administered to the silver and sustainable cure. Since the copper used normal metal, silver is an ideal metal for nickel allergic people. Usually can be distinguished by a silver “925″ mark found on jewelry. This is common in manufactured parts, but can not attend traditional jewelry. Some other metals that are safe for people with nickel allergy:
Copper – Copper jewelry is generally considered pure and not mixed with nickel or nickel alloy.
Platinum – Platinum jewelry contains 95% platinum and 5% of general secondary metal iridium. Titanium – Titanium jewelry is both hypoallergenic and durable. It is a highly recommended metal for those who suffer from nickel allergy. Since I have given you a list of heavy metal, I thought you a list of metal terms to consider when shopping for jewelry. fashion jewelry or costume often contain metals containing nickel. Alpaca or silver, nickel is a metal-to-away from where jewelry is to continue to participate. German silver contains no silver. The silver refers to silver metal. The color is derived from a combination of nickel, zinc, lead and tin that are within the alloy. Surgical or stainless steel – stainless steel is made to be operative in the human body. However, the iron alloy contains between eight and twelve percent nickel. I’ve heard various reports about how safe this metal is for people with nickel allergy. Since the alloy steel contains nickel, which tend to avoid it, but some people swear by it.
If you buy a gem and there are fears that may contain nickel, commercial test kits are available online. These kits contain chemicals that react in the presence of nickel.
Do a little research can prevent nickel allergy attack and still can not fashion.
